How does Ford decide to issue a recall?

All recall programs are Vehicle Identification Number (VIN) specific. Vehicles involved in a recall may be identified by specific build dates within a model year, the assembly plant, or other factors. If a program is announced on a vehicle, Ford will notify the last owner on record by mail.
