The workday doesn’t end where the pavement does. For many, that’s just the beginning.

When we set out to build the first-ever Ranger Super Duty, we knew it had to be more than just a truck with a bigger8 payload (up to 1,982kg1) or increased8 towing capacity (4,500kg maximum braked2). It had to be a partner. So, we spent time with the farmers, miners, and tradies who operate in the most demanding conditions. We listened to their frustrations, and we built a truck designed not just to handle the work, but to make it easier.

Managing Diesel Particulate Filter (DPF) regeneration can be a challenge when the process is automatic, particularly for those working in high-heat environments or making short trips where a full cycle isn't always feasible. The Ranger Super Duty's DPF Regeneration Control puts you in charge, offering a choice on when this process takes place.

Ranger Super Duty allows you to turn off automatic DPF regeneration. When disabled, the vehicle will not initiate regeneration until you manually initiate it, giving you control over the burn cycle within certain parameters. Once the DPF is >70% full, the vehicle will display a pop-up warning requesting that a DPF burn be undertaken soon, but it will not automatically initiate DPF regeneration.

The process is straightforward and is broken into two key phases: preventing the automatic regeneration and then, later, starting a manual one.

  • From the SYNC® screen, tap the Vehicle icon to open the settings menu.
  • Scroll to Vehicle Settings and toggle Auto Regeneration to off.

This simple step ensures the DPF will not clean itself until you’re ready to begin. When the filter becomes full (from 70% capacity), a message will appear in the instrument cluster stating, ‘Exhaust filter full: Clean soon’.

Step 2: Perform a Manual Regeneration

When you’re ready and have moved the vehicle to an appropriate location - on level ground, clear of long grass or flammable materials - you can initiate the manual regeneration.

First, ensure the following conditions are met:

  • The engine is at normal operating temperature.
  • The transmission is in Park (P).
  • Your foot is not on the brake pedal.
  • You have at least a quarter tank of fuel.
  • All vehicle fluids are at the correct level.

With the preconditions met, simply:

  • Toggle Auto Regeneration back on in the Vehicle Settings menu.
  • On the steering wheel, press the Menu button.
  • On the instrument cluster, select Vehicle Maintenance.
  • Select Exhaust Filter.
  • A message will appear in your instrument cluster asking for permission to start cleaning the filter. Once you confirm, the system takes over. The display will notify you when the process is complete.

It is a simple, solution-oriented feature that gives you the final say, ensuring DPF regeneration occurs on your terms.

To make powering accessories simpler, the Ranger Super Duty features six pre-wired auxiliary switches on the overhead console. Labelled AUX 1 through AUX 6, each circuit is fused and ready to be connected to your essential gear.

The switches are active when the ignition is on or in accessory mode. When you activate a switch, its indicator light illuminates, confirming that power is flowing to your device. For high-draw accessories or for extended use, we recommend having the engine running to maintain the battery's charge.

To simplify installation, three sets of blunt-cut, sealed circuits are located in key areas of the vehicle:

  • Under the Hood:
    • Circuits for AUX 1, 2, and 5 are in the auxiliary fuse box, near the left-hand headlamp.

The move to eight-stud wheels, up from the six on Ranger, provides greater clamping force and improved load distribution to handle the vehicle’s higher load carrying capacity. To ensure that immense capability can be brought to a halt with confidence, Ranger Super Duty’s brakes were redesigned to offer a significant 12% more swept area for enhanced stopping power and control under heavy loads.

Ranger Super Duty was also subjected to relentless testing during its development. From its Trial by Mud - an extreme mud-packing test that saw critical components covered in 600kg of thick mud - to the dreaded Silver Creek durability track, where it ran through 300 randomly placed, bone-rattling bumps of different shapes and sizes continuously for 24/7 while fully loaded at 4,500 Gross Vehicle Mass (GVM). Even the taller wing mirrors, essential for visibility when the internal mirror is obscured by a full load, were subjected to a relentless testing regime. Our engineers slammed the doors tens of thousands of times in temperatures from freezing to scorching to help validate mirror, hinge, and latch durability - testing designed to simulate years of hard use.

Beyond the vehicle itself, even its accessories are designed and built to Super Duty standards. The heavy-duty Triple M steel tray, developed side-by-side with the Ranger Super Duty, is designed to take its full payload even in the toughest conditions, having been tested to rigorous standards - including those applied at the Silver Creek durability track.

Vehicles should be weighed before and after adding additional load, accessories or towing a trailer to ensure the maximum Gross Vehicle Mass (GVM), Gross Combined Mass (GCM) and Gross Axle Weight Ratings are not exceeded.

  2. Maximum towing capacity braked using Genuine Ford tow equipment. Does not include tow ball-available at additional cost. Subject to State and Territory regulations. To comply with these limits, any load transported by the vehicle may need to be restricted to not exceed the GCM and GVM limits.

  3. Onboard Scales and Smart Hitch are not intended for trade measurement usage. The vehicle payload and hitch load measurements that display on the screen are estimated values and subject to a tolerance of +/-100 kg of the actual weight.

  4. Driver-assist features are supplemental and do not replace the driver’s attention, judgment and need to control the vehicle. It does not replace safe driving. See Owner’s Manual for details and limitations.

  5. The Integrated Device Mount System (IDMS) enables devices to be mounted; however these devices must remain outside of the passenger airbag zones. The installation of aftermarket devices that interfere or obstruct the functionality of the airbags can significantly increase the risk of personal injury in the event of a collision. See Body and Equipment Mounting Manual and IDMS Owner’s Manual for details and limitations. Mounting bar is an optional accessory, available at an additional cost.

  6. Always consider the mass of your load and your selected accessories to ensure your vehicle will not exceed vehicle and accessory load limits.

  7. The total weight of the device, mounting bar, and fasteners as a complete assembly must not exceed 3kg.
