PX Ranger MKII
Customer Guidance for Safe Off-road Vehicle Operation and Avoidance of Potential Fire Hazard

What you need to know

We would like to bring to your attention additional maintenance that may be required if you were to drive your Ford Ranger MKII through long grass or vegetation.

When driving over long grass, vegetation may accumulate under the car, near the exhaust system.  In the course of normal operation, the exhaust system in that area may reach a high temperature.

If sufficient grass or other combustible material accumulates, this high temperature could create a risk of fire.

Ford is working on additional shielding to address this situation. We will write to you when this is available to be installed on your vehicle.

What you need to do

We recommend the following:

  • Do not park, idle or drive your vehicle through areas covered by long grass or other vegetation
  • Where driving over areas of long grass that cannot be avoided, you must ensure that there is no accumulation of combustible material underneath the vehicle by either:

  • Inspecting the underbody of your vehicle for accumulation of grass or other combustible materials and clearing any accumulation, if present, taking care around the exhaust system when hot. Please review examples of grass accumulation included in the video below.
