How does the Tyre Pressure Monitoring System work?
The Tyre Pressure Monitoring System (TPMS) is a useful system designed to let you know if one of your tyres is low on pressure. Each wheel is fitted with a sensor that, when your vehicle is on, reports the tyre pressure to the car's computer. If one or more of your tyres has low pressure, the system will display an indicator light on the dashboard. You will then need to check the pressure of each tyre.
If you have your spare wheel fitted, or there is an issue with any of the sensors, the indicator light (see example below) will flash on start-up, before remaining illuminated whilst the vehicle is on. The "Tyre Pressure Monitoring System" section of your Owner's Manual has information and instructions on how the system works and the reset procedure.
WARNING: The TPMS is not a substitute for manually checking tyre pressures. You should periodically check tyre pressures using a pressure gauge. Failure to correctly maintain tyre pressures could increase the risk of tyre failure, loss of control, vehicle rollover, and personal injury.
