1. What is Ford 2nd Car and where can I find details?
Thanks for your interest in the Ford 2nd Car program, a global first for Ford! Ford 2nd Car provides eligible buyers affordable access to a second Ford for up to two weeks during their first two years of vehicle ownership. On this website in addition to these FAQs, you will find an overview outlining how the program works, a summary of the terms you need to know about, and a downloadable version of the Ford 2nd Car Terms and Conditions. If you have any further questions, or just want to talk to someone about whether this is for you, you can contact us as 2ndcar@ford.com or 13 FORD (13 3673), select Menu Option 4 and request Ford 2nd Car.
The program is aimed at new Ford buyers with program sign up to occur at the point of vehicle purchase. Specifically, Ford 2nd Car is available to Private and Blue, Silver and Gold Business Fleet buyers on the purchase of a new of demonstrator Ford vehicle, from a participating dealer.
At point of vehicle purchase, you sign up and pay an enrolment fee of $500 (incl. GST) to become a member of the Ford 2nd Car program for two years. Now you can get a Ford 2nd Car Vehicle as your second car for two weeks (or two groups of one week). These weeks are called Journey Credits and a rental fee applies at the time of booking them. The current rental fees are shown in the pricing table on this website. If you find that you never use this service, we will give you a refund of the enrolment fee for up to a year after the membership ends.
No. Ford 2nd Car is available from participating Ford dealers only.
Yes, eligible buyers of demonstrator Ford vehicles are welcome to sign up to the Ford 2nd Car program.
As the program is aimed at new Ford buyers, with program sign up required at the point of vehicle purchase, we cannot offer it to those customers who have already taken delivery of their new Ford.
To be a Driver of a Ford 2nd Car Vehicle, you must have a full driver’s licence and be aged over the age of 25. So for clarity, if you sign up as a Member and you are under 25 and/or not fully licensed, you won’t be able to drive a Ford 2nd Car vehicle supplied under this program.
To use the service, you must also be able to travel to the Dealership you place a booking through to pick up and return your Ford 2nd Car.
As the person who signs up to Ford 2nd Car at point of sale, you are the Member and yes, you can allow other Drivers to drive our Ford 2nd Car Vehicle during your booking, provided they have a full driver’s licence, are over the age of 25 and fully comply with all the Program terms and conditions. It is important to know that when the booking is made in your membership name, you have a contract with us, and you are therefore responsible for every aspect of the loan, inclusive of all the fines, regardless of whether the Ford 2nd Car Vehicle was driven by someone else. So choose your Drivers wisely and enjoy the program responsibly together! For a complete rundown, see our Ford 2nd Car Terms and Conditions and remember it is your responsibility to make sure your Drivers read, agree and comply with these Terms and Conditions.
Membership is not transferrable, so you can’t gift it. However, if you choose to become a Member you can permit family and friends to be Drivers, provided they have a full driver’s licence, are over the age of 25 and fully comply with all the Program terms and conditions. Done responsibly, we think being able to share the driving experience is half the fun.
Yes, you are very welcome to use your journey credits separately. This includes choosing a different Ford 2nd Car Vehicle and/or a different participating Dealer. Of course, this is subject to availability.
Yes, you are able to use your two journey credits concurrently. This means, you can book two single journeys for the maximum of 7 days to drive around two Ford 2nd Cars at the same time. Assuming this means you are permitting others to drive, remember you are responsible for both ensuring they meet the driver eligibility criteria (See Question 8) and for every aspect of the loan inclusive of all fines, regardless of whether the Ford 2nd Car Vehicle was driven by someone else.
You have two years from the date you take delivery of your new Ford in which to use your 2 journey credits as part of your Ford 2nd Car membership.
Ford 2nd Car is a national program designed to create memorable road trips, so yes, you can drive interstate provided you are always on “Permitted Areas” which means properly constructed roads and access roads to camping and accommodation grounds. You can drive a maximum distance of 1500km a week or 3000km for 2 weeks without additional charge. Note, if the Ford 2nd Car Vehicle has travelled further than the maximum distance, you will pay 50 cents per kilometre for each kilometre that exceeds the maximum distance.
14. I’m in the middle of buying an Eligible Vehicle at a Participating Dealership. I’m interested in the program but I need some time to think about it. Can I buy my car now and think about it later?
You are free to make up your mind up until you finalise your sales invoice with your dealership and take delivery of your vehicle. Make sure your dealer knows you need some consideration time, so they take this into account in planning your delivery. You may also get a Ford 2nd Car offer when you receive a Welcome Call.
The Ford 2nd Car team are available Monday to Friday 8-6pm AEST on 13FORD (13 3673), select Menu Option 5. If you call out of hours you are able to leave a message and we will return your call on the next business day. If you have an emergency, Ford Roadside Assistance can be reached on 1800 13 FORD.
16. Can I use the Ford Logo or Ford pictures for my project, website etc? How can I get a Ford Logo to use?
Ford 2nd Car differs from a standard rental agreement, in that it offers our customers the best of both worlds – a great car ownership experience and access to a great sharing experience, using Ford’s own vehicles. This allows our customers to enjoy the benefits of their own vehicle, but when needed or desired, access to a different vehicle from the Ford range, at a participating dealership of their choosing. We want to innovate car ownership – and we want our Ford family to come along for the ride!
With the help of our Ford customers, we want to offer this program now and into the long term.
Yes, Ford 2nd Car is now available across all new or demonstrator Ford vehicles.
A global first, Ford 2nd Car is available at participating dealers in Australia only.
No.
If you find that you never use this service – that is, not used any journey credits - we will give you a refund of the enrolment fee for up to a year after the two year membership ends. For details or to arrange, call us on 13FORD (13 3673) menu option 5 or email us at 2ndcar@ford.com.
23. I signed up to the program but now I am selling my Ford. Is the second owner eligible to take my place?
No, memberships are not transferable. If you have not used your membership, you are entitled to a refund of the enrolment fee for up to a year after your 2 year membership ends.
Yes, you are entitled to use your journey credits provided you do so within the 2 year membership period.
There is presently no option to purchase additional journey credits.
Yes, you may install child restraints in our Ford 2nd Car Vehicles.
No, we don’t offer child restraints.
No. Our Ford 2nd Car Vehicles may not be used for any form of racing, pace making, reliability trials, speed or hill climbing contests. This is one of prohibited uses described in Clause 1.32 (Terms and Conditions) and is considered to be a Serious Breach of your contract which can have significant consequences. So please don’t pretend you or your drivers are Daniel Ricciardo.
29. So I pay a $500 membership upfront plus a rental fee when I make a booking. What about additional costs?
Generally, the costs you will incur are pretty similar to what they would be for the car you own - petrol, parking costs and tolls. If you plan on using toll roads we suggest adding the Ford 2nd Car Vehicles’s registration to your toll account for the duration of your journey or buying a once-off pass from your local toll provider to cover your travel on toll affected route.
Additional costs only occur where you incur fines (eg toll, parking or traffic infringement), don’t meet your obligations to us (eg return the vehicle late, with excess mileage, or fuel tank not full) or incur damage either to our Ford 2nd Car Vehicles or third party property.
The Late Return Fee is $300 per day and is incurred if you don’t return the Ford 2nd Car Vehicles by 5pm on the day of the return time, or within 2 hours from the return time (whichever is the later).
The Maximum Distance permitted is 1500km per week (3000km for 2 weeks). If the Ford 2nd Car Vehicles has travelled further than the maximum distance, you will pay 50 cents per kilometre for each kilometre that exceeds the maximum distance.
If the Ford 2nd Car Vehicles is returned without a full tank of fuel, you will pay for the additional fuel required to fill the tank at $2.50 per litre. The required payment types is:
Mustang: 95RON petrol
Ranger/Everest/Transit/Escape/Endura: Diesel
Focus: 95RON or E10 petrol
As part of signing up, you agree that we may debit your credit card for all additional fees. Note we will always provide you with written (email) notice of the additional fees you have incurred before doing so.
If we receive an infringement notice (eg a speeding fine) during or after your journey is complete, we will provide the notifying authority details necessary for them to hold you liable for that infringement. You will then receive notice directly from them.
We think this is one of the most important parts of our contract with you, and that it’s important to understand this upfront so there are no surprises.
Damage means any damage to the vehicle but can also include damage to third party property such as, if you are in a motor vehicle accident and cause damage to another vehicle. Provided it was not caused by a Serious Breach of the Terms and Conditions (see questions 32 and 70), you will be liable for damage and loss up to the Damage Contribution Fee, which is set at $2000. In other words, you have to pay for the damage/loss caused up to a maximum of $2000. However, where the damage or loss was caused by a Serious Breach, you will be liable for the loss or damage costs in full.
We also want to take the time to call out wheel damage and tyre damage. You will be liable in full for this, and your liability will not be limited to the Damage Contribution Fee, if it is found that there is damage to wheels and/or tyres during a journey that is not attributable to fair wear and tear and responsible driving.
So please don’t pretend you or your drivers are Daniel Riccardo OR Ken Block.
Damage and loss are a big deal! Your liability for it is covered in section 7 of the Terms and Conditions.
We take damage and loss to our vehicles seriously, since it compromises our ability to deliver our Ford 2nd Car Vehicles in the best possible condition to all Customers. Please ensure you read and understand these.
Yes, in the event the damage or loss was caused by a Serious Breach, you will be liable for the full cost of this, which may be more than $2000. Wheel Damage and Tyre Damage is not limited to the Damage Contribution Fee either and depending on the severity of damage may be more than $2000.
A serious breach of the contract you have with us means you have failed to follow the key rules of the Program. Here’s a snap shot of some of the key prohibited behaviours:
Remember, this is a summary, so for the full explanation, read the Terms and Conditions.
These questions and more are covered in the “After my journey - Accidents, Thefts and Damage Costs” Section
Yes, Ford Genuine Parts and Accessories are warranted. Ford Genuine Parts carry a 12 month or 20,000km kilometre warranty, whichever comes first (conditions apply). Ford Genuine Accessories, when fitted at time of new vehicle purchase, are covered by the Express New Vehicle Warranty for 3 years or 100,000km - whichever comes first.
Our Ford 2nd Car Vehicles are fitted with an In Vehicle Monitoring System (IVMS) which tracks and records the geographic location of the vehicles at all times.
Drivers should be aware that the MyKey feature on all Ford 2nd Car Vehicle has been enabled. This forces on the Driver Assist features (rear parking aid, blind spot information system, cross traffic alert, lane departure warning, forward collision warning system and restricted touchscreen operation) where fitted. Additionally, for a Mustang, the Track Mode and Drag Strip features of the vehicle have been disabled.
Our Ford 2nd Car Vehicles are covered by roadside assistance. If you need it, call 1800 13 FORD. You can also read our Roadside Assistance FAQs for more information.
All Ford 2nd Car Vehicles feature selectable drive modes that deliver a driving experience through a suite of sophisticated, electronic vehicle systems. These systems optimize steering, handling and powertrain response. We highly recommend that when driving in wet or inclement weather, the selectable drive mode is set to Snow/Wet when available. This mode provides a confident drive experience and a direct connection to the road without sacrificing any of the composure demanded from your vehicle. Please note, if you wish to set the drive mode to Snow/Wet, you will need to ensure the transmission is not set to sport (we recommend using Drive).
To view or change the drive mode setting the data is generally either a switch on the instrument panel a toggle on the mode button or both. If you require any more information, please review the Car’s Owners Manual.
During your journey you are wholly and solely responsible for our Ford 2nd Car Vehicles. Some of the key things you need to know are that you must 1) maintain our Ford 2nd Car Vehicles in a clean and tidy condition; 2) comply with all road rules; 3) keep it locked and secure when not in use; and 4) ensure it is properly and safely parked. An owner’s manual is provided in the glovebox, which outlines how to operate the Ford 2nd Car Vehicles responsibly and is a great ‘go to’ if you’re wondering what each button, dial, light and toggle is used for.
Likewise, there’s a variety of “must NOTs”. These include that you must not 1) smoke in our Ford 2nd Car Vehicles; 2) alter our Car in any way or 3) use it for a prohibited use. The “Prohibited Use” Clause (See 1.32 in the Terms and Conditions) has 12 key detailed items. These include 1) driving under the influence; 2) driving in a dangerous manner; 3) being driven in any form of racing (there’s a big clause around this one).
As also mentioned in Questions 8 and 9, if you allow other Drivers to drive it, you are completely responsible for ensuring they are fully licenced, over the age of 25 and that they comply with all the Program terms and conditions.
Depending on the F2C Vehicle you borrowed, you are required to use
Mustang: 95RON petrol
Ranger/Everest/Transit/Escape/Endura: Diesel
Focus: 95RON or E10 petrol
We recommend 32psi in all tyres. The Ford 2nd Car Vehicle is fitted with a smart Type Pressure Monitoring System which you can access through buttons on the steering wheel. If you would like more information, you can find it on page 180 of the Owner’s Manual (in the glovebox) or contact us on 13FORD (13 3673), select menu option 5 or email us at 2ndcar@ford.com.
There are a few steps, but these are designed to ensure the security of your information.
The first step is to create a Ford 2nd Car Username and password that can be used to access the booking website www.ford.com.au/ford2ndcar/login/.
You will need your Username and your vehicle VIN (Vehicle Identification Number).
Your Username was created at the dealership and is located on your Ford 2nd Car Application Form. It is between 6 and 20 characters long and cannot have the characters “< > &” or spaces.
The 17 Character Vehicle Identification Number (VIN) is found in several places, easiest being either on your dealer’s invoice or on the front windscreen registration sticker of your car. The VIN is unique to your car and therefore ensures the security of your Ford 2nd Car booking information.
The only other piece of info you need is your regular email address to enable you to set up.
Once you have these, you will create what is known as an “Owner Dashboard account” which can be done with the assistance of your Dealership or at home.
Click on www.ford.com.au/ford2ndcar/registration/ or https://www.ford.com.au/owners/#overlay/content/ford/au/en_au/site-wide-content/overlays/form-overlay/register.html, hit the ‘Register’ button and follow the prompts.
If you get stuck, call us on 13FORD (133673), menu option 5 and we can also provide a step by step guide to assist you. We may also be able to troubleshoot any issues you have via email, so send a note to 2ndcar@ford.com
Please note, it may take a few days for your details to appear on the system. If you can’t access the bookings page straight away, come back in a few days and try again.
Log in to your Owner Dashboard account using your Ford 2nd Car username and password and select which Ford 2nd Car Vehicle you want, which dealer you’d like to pick it up from and what dates suit you. You can select these 3 criteria in the order that best suits you. Just remember, vehicles are subject to availability and not all participating dealers have Ford 2nd Car Vehicles available.
You will then need to accept the terms of this journey. Please take a moment to ensure you understand these Terms and Conditions before accepting, as it is essential you know what you are responsible for.
The last booking step is to pay using your valid credit card. On successful payment, you will receive a confirmation message on your browser, and a booking confirmation that also acts as a tax receipt will be emailed to you.
40. A driver other than me was responsible for the fines. Can I change my credit card details for his, so that he can be charged instead of me?
No, the credit card used for making the booking is the one that will be charged for any costs you may become liable for. In the event the credit card used to confirm the booking is no longer able to be used, such as it has been cancelled, lost or stolen, please contact us directly on 13 FORD (13 3673), select Menu Option 4 and request Ford 2nd Car.
Your receipt is your ‘Ford 2nd Car Booking Confirmation’ email which is automatically sent once you have successfully made a booking. This includes your unique booking reference number, together with details of your booking and payment. This also acts as a tax receipt.
Yes. Firstly, you will receive an email confirming your booking. We’ll then send you an email to remind you of your upcoming pick up appointment, an email towards the end of your journey reminding you of the return details and finally on journey completion, a follow up.
Yes, your Ford 2nd Car needs to be booked ahead via the booking website so you get the Ford 2nd Car Vehicle you want at a time that suits. Ford 2nd Car Vehicles are subject to availability, and we want you to get the Ford 2nd Car Vehicle you want in a timeslot that can maximise your enjoyment and usage of the vehicle.
44. What is the point of having a Nominated Driver, if I can let anyone who meets the Driver eligibility criteria drive the car I have booked?
The purpose of the nominated driver is so we can verify who is picking up and returning the Ford 2nd Car at the Dealership, particularly in the instance that you, as the Member, are unable to do so yourself, or it is inconvenient for you to do so. We offer this service purely to make pick up and return as convenient as possible.
No, it needs to be you as the Member or your Nominated Driver who returns it. If you or your Nominated Driver are unable to return the car, please let us know as soon as possible by calling on 13 FORD (13 3673), select Menu Option 4 and request Ford 2nd Car.
You must make your own way to your chosen Dealership to pick up your Ford 2nd Car. If you are from out of town, the Dealership address is located on your Booking Confirmation.
All you (or your Nominated Driver) need to bring to your pick up appointment at the dealership is your driver’s licence and a copy of you Booking Confirmation, either a print out or an electronic copy on your phone.
No, after signing up the $500 enrolment fee at the Dealership, all your other transactions are handled directly with Ford through the booking website. Please note that the credit card used via the booking site, is the credit card that will be charged in the event that any additional costs are incurred as a result of your journey
Every vehicle is cleaned and fuelled before being made available for pick up. A Dealership representative will take photos of the exterior and interior of the vehicle, together with odometer and fuel gauge reading. So you can expect your Ford 2nd Car to be in great condition when the keys are handed to you.
As soon as you become aware of your delay and are able to, please contact your Dealership directly. Their phone number is located on your booking confirmation. Alternatively, please contact us via phone 13FORD (13 3673), Menu Option 5. We will work with you to determine the best alternative.
However, if you or your Nominated Driver don’t show up to collect your car within 1 operating day of the pick up time, the booking will be cancelled, and you will forfeit both your journey credit and rental fee.
No. We recommend you leave your car at home, as our dealerships do not have adequate space for long term parking.
52. I need to change my booking details at the last minute. How will this affect my journey credits? Will you refund me?
If you cancel your booking at least one week prior to the pick up date, you will receive a refund for the Rental Fee and retain your journey credit(s). If you cancel your booking less than one week from the pickup date, you will receive a refund for the Rental Fee, but you will not be entitled to a refund of one journey credit.
53. I’ve picked up my Ford 2nd Car, but something has popped up and I need to return it sooner than the expected return date. Will I be able to continue my journey at another time?
You can return your Ford 2nd Car at any time during the journey period, but you will forfeit any days left in that journey credit.
Program membership is for 2 journey credits, so if you have an unused journey credit, this may be possible subject to vehicle availability.
If you have used one journey credit to book for less than a week, but change your mind and want to take advantage of the full week, this may also be possible (subject to availability).
Give our team a call on 13FORD (13 3673) and select Menu Option 5 or email 2ndcar@ford.com to see if it is possible.
We will work with you to determine the best solution, but please be aware that a late return fee of $300 per day may apply. As soon as you become aware of your delay and are able to, please contact your dealership directly. Their phone number is located on your booking confirmation. Alternatively, please contact us via phone 13FORD (13 3673), Menu Option 5.
No. So we can deliver our Ford 2nd Car Vehicles on time and in the best possible condition to all Customers, we need every Customer to return the cars on time.
If you don’t return the Car by 5pm on the day of the Return Time or within 2 hours from the Return Time (whichever is the later) you will incur a Late Return Fee of $300 per day. Where Your inability to return the Car on time means that the journey would exceed a one week period, a further Journey Credit will be deducted from your entitlements (if available). This is considered to be a Serious Breach of our contract with you.
The best course of action is that as soon as you become aware of a likely delay, please contact your Dealership directly. Their phone number is located on your booking confirmation. Alternatively, please contact us via phone 13FORD (13 3673), Menu Option 5. We will work with you to determine the best alternative given the situation.
Where the vehicle is not returned, then following a written demand Ford may report the vehicle as stolen to the Police and/or take steps to recover and repossess the vehicle.
No. Pick up and Return occurs at a single point, which is the Dealership you chose in making the booking.
59. I haven’t had a chance to fill up with fuel before returning to the Dealership. What happens from here?
Ford 2nd Car fees do not include fuel. You are responsible for all fuel costs and fuelling it correctly. If you don’t return it full, we will refuel it and charge you $2.50 per litre for the number of litres required to fill the fuel tank.
The required type of fuel is:
Mustang: 95RON petrol
Ranger/Everest/Transit/Escape/Endura: Diesel
Focus: 95RON or E10 petrol
60. Help, I have had a breakdown on the side of the road! Does Ford 2nd Car have Roadside Assistance?
Ford 2nd Car comes with Ford Standard Roadside Assistance provided by Assist Australia and can be accessed by calling 1800 13 FORD (1800 13 3673), 24 hours a day, 365 days per year. Details are in the glove box of every Ford 2nd Car or visit the Roadside and Emergency page here
For more information on what to do when your in an accident visit the Roadside and Emergency page here (Roadside & Emergency).
As per Question 30, damage means any damage to the vehicle but can also include damage to third party property such as, if you are in a motor vehicle accident and cause damage to another vehicle. Provided it was not caused by a Serious Breach of the Terms and Conditions (see question 70), you will be liable for damage and loss up to the Damage Contribution Fee, which is set at $2000.
Yes. You are liable for damage and loss up to the Damage Contribution Fee which is set at $2000 and must pay it, regardless of fault. However, when the insurance claim is settled, and in the event you are found to have no responsibility, you will be reimbursed fully. In this way, it operates in line with most general insurance practices.
This is entirely dependent on how long it takes to settle the claim. However, the more detailed information you can provide from the accident, including completing the accident form accurately, taking clear photos, ensuring you have all the personal and ownership details of any third party people involved, the greater the likelihood of speedier resolution between insurers. We will keep you informed of any updates from our claims management partner.
You are liable for damage and loss to third party property, up to the Damage Contribution Fee of $2000 or if it was caused by a Serious Breach then you are liable in full.
Then you pay the exact repair cost and would be provided with a copy of the repair invoice(s) for complete transparency.
No, this is not offered.
As also mentioned in Question 31, yes, in the event the damage or loss was caused by a Serious Breach, you will be liable for the full cost of this, which may be more than $2000. Wheel Damage and Tyre Damage is not limited to the Damage Contribution Fee either and depending on the severity of damage may be more than $2000
As also mentioned in Question 32, a serious breach of the contract you have with us means you have failed to follow the key rules of the Program. Here’s a snap shot of some of the key prohibited behaviours:
Remember, this is a summary, so for the full explanation, read the Terms and Conditions.
Don’t forget to do a once over of your Ford 2nd Car before returning the keys to the Dealership. If you have left an item in your Ford 2nd Car, contact the Dealership and if found, they will take reasonable steps to find a way to return your item. Any costs for returning it, (eg parcel post) may be passed on to you.
We love your Ford 2nd Car so much we want to keep it! Have a chat to your dealer as we’re sure they’d be able to track down a vehicle that suits your needs. We are unlikely to be able to sell your Ford 2nd Car to you because it is set up for the Ford 2nd Car program and is booked in advance for others.
