the tough done smarter approach we are able to push the boundaries of the Ford Ranger and test a
series of unique capabilities. Throughout the series the Ranger's frame strength, endurance, pulling
power, power train and off road capabilities are showcased

Ranger Fuge - Frame Strength Experiment

 

In this episode we test the frame strength by hooking up 600kgs of mass to the vehicle; 300kgs to the front and 300 kgs to the rear and take it for a spin. The opposing forces threaten to tear the Ranger apart. Ranger’s core strength comes from its fully customised frame, made entirely from 8 types of specialised steel compositions formulated by Ford engineers. Ranger’s frame is intelligently moulded for added strength wherever force is experienced. Add in ultra high strength boron, and every millimetre of the Ranger's core is designed for even distribution of energy.

Off road and up hill the Ranger can take it all on, conquering mixed terrains and climbing up to 45° of incline. Impressively, the Ranger was able to tackle a steep grade in reverse with 2000kg of mass hooked to its front recovery hook, a challenge not all trucks are able to handle. Fortunately, the Ranger has hill launch assist, which works in forward or reverse to stop it from rolling down the hill. While the electronic locking rear differential ensures that power is efficiently delivered to each wheel to maximise traction.

The Ranger is built to perform in a wide variety of challenging environments. The Ranger’s tow bar design and torque give it an unsurpassed towing capacity of up to 3.5 tonnes3. Ford engineers put this to the test by dragging quarry rocks in a steel sled uphill over the course of a working day. The Ranger's tow hitch is formed using continuous welds at each joint, helping to maximise sturdiness and distribute energy when towing heavy loads. 12 bolts reinforce the tow bar distributing the energy throughout the chassis allowing it to tow a load force of over 1400kgs.
