Ford Study: Aussie Families are Planning More Road Trips than Overseas Travel in 2016

- Ford-commissioned study of 1,000 Australians found that from 2012 to 2015 the percentage of Australian families who say their family holiday will be in Australia has increased from 32 to 48 per cent
- Australians are prepared to travel long distances for iconic family trips with more than half (54%) saying they will travel up to 1,000km
- Safety and reliability prevail as the top considerations when choosing a vehicle although 67% say that an SUV is ideal for family road trips

MELBOURNE –The majority of Australian families (77%) are opting for domestic travel over going overseas in 2016, according to a recent study of 1,000 Australian parents commissioned by Ford. The most popular option for family holidays is to visit iconic Australian locations such as the Great Barrier Reef, Uluru and the Great Ocean Road. Safety, reliability and comfort are top-rated considerations when choosing a vehicle, with 67% saying that an SUV is the vehicle of choice for such trips. More than half (54 per cent) of Australian families are also keen to travel long distances of up to 1,000km for family holidays.
The survey findings show:

This study was conducted using an online permission-based panel between Monday 14 December and Wednesday 16 December 2015 by Galaxy Research.
The sample was 1,000 Australians aged 18-64 years who had children aged under 18 living at home.
