MELBOURNE, 21 Jan., 2015 – The Ford Ranger is hauling in new buyers with its blend of leading capability, toughness and innovation, setting an all-time sales record in Australia while passing the Toyota HiLux to become New Zealand’s most popular pickup. Not only has it continued to challenge the Toyota HiLux in Australia in 2014 but in New Zealand the Ranger knocked off the Toyota HiLux to become New Zealand’s new number one pickup in 2014.

In 2014, Ford sold 26,619 Rangers in Australia, delivering a solid number two spot behind the Toyota HiLux in the Light Truck segment and closing the sales gap significantly. For the year, Ford Ranger sales were up 22 per cent over 2013. Ranger was the 6th highest-selling overall nameplate in Australia in 2014, up four places from 10th position in 2013. In October, Ranger was the 5th highest-selling nameplate.

Ford also posted a record segment share; 15.9 per cent up from 12.6 per cent in 2013. It was the number one in Government sales with a 35.5 per cent share, up from 29.4 per cent. The XLT Double Cab Pick-Up was the most successful model in the Ranger line-up with 7,254 units sold in 2014, a 39 per cent improvement.

Wildtrak Double Cab Pick-Up showed the most improvement in 2014, with 2,492 units sold. A massive 131 per cent improvement from last year’s 1,079 units sold. The highest sales were in NSW, with 7,609 Rangers sold, while Victoria had the highest Ranger share with 19 per cent of pickups being Ranger.

“We’ve had a fantastic result for the Ford Ranger and clearly the customers have voted with their feet to make this stylish and practical vehicle one of the most desirable pickups to own,” Graeme Whickman, Vice President Marketing, Sales and Service, Ford Australia.

“The Ranger was designed and engineered in Australia for more than 180 markets. It’s a testament to the Ford team that this pickup has been a sales sensation because of its capability, technology and 5-star Australian New Car Assessment Program safety rating.” Customers also appreciate the Ranger’s huge payload capacity and 3,500 kg towing capability.

Whickman said the pickup segment in Australia was highly competitive and customers are spoilt for choice when it comes to tough trucks but none come tougher than the Ford Ranger.

“The entire range possesses leading levels of refinement, safety and importantly connectivity. In addition to the Ranger’s reliability and on and off-road capability, customers appreciate the smart technology, the great design and the 5-star ANCAP safety rating for both 2WD and 4WD* models.

“The bottom line is the Ford Ranger offers customers much more for their investment.” On the back of the Ranger’s success in 2014, 2015 is shaping up as the busiest launch year for Ford in Australia with a refreshed Ranger being one of the most significant arrivals. Joining the refreshed Ranger will be five new or refreshed vehicles in 2015, among them the refreshed Focus range, including the performance ST, all-new Mondeo, Everest SUV and the all-new Mustang.

“As excited as we are about the success of the Ford Ranger, we’re even more excited about 2015,” said Bob Graziano.

“We are launching an unprecedented number of new vehicles this year and we are confident they will follow in the Ranger’s footsteps.”
